Glasgow: Maryhill Locks

Maryhill Locks is well on its way to becoming a contemporary urban village, integrated with the surrounding neighbourhood, and supported by local amenities.

A new community neighbourhood of around 600 new homes is taking shape at Maryhill Locks – but it’s not just another new housing development - festivals, shops, public art, growing spaces and community facilities will all be part of this canal-side village within the city of Glasgow.

  • Phase 1: 35 homes were completed in 2010, for Maryhill Housing Association
  • Phase 2: 125 homes are currently under construction, for Maryhill Housing Association
  • Our first phase of ‘for sale’ housing is at the design stage and will be on site in 2012.

There’s a real mix of housing in this new development, from apartments through to family houses. The street pattern is designed to promote safety and of course, there is the great canal setting – the whole project is a great leap forward for the renewal of Maryhill. This project was one of only eleven to be awarded ‘Scottish Sustainable Community’ status by the Scottish Government, an initiative aimed at “... creating places which are ambitious and inspiring, and which raise standards in design, architecture and sustainable construction ...”.
