Glasgow: Whisky Bond

A former whisky bond is being transformed into a creative factory for Glasgow, with shared values of independence & innovation at its heart – a place for renegades, optimists & game-changers to succeed – opens April 2012.

The Whisky Bond is being transformed into a creative factory for Glasgow, a nerve centre providing a home to artists, a place for like minded entrepreneurs to run a business, and an accessible venue and gallery for a wide audience to enjoy. As the new home of Glasgow Sculpture Studios, and with 4 floors of creative workspaces above, the Whisky Bond will become a radically new kind of space – a project fully aligned with emerging 21st century culture, characterised by

  • networks and communication
  • diversity and independence
  • making and doing
  • innovation and entrepreneurship.

This awesome space will join the growing creative neighbourhood around Glasgow’s canal, including National Theatre of Scotland, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Scottish Opera and The Glue Factory.
“The move to Speirs Locks marks an important development for Glasgow Sculpture Studios. As well as being a permanent base, the new premises will enable us to increase the number of studios and improve our production facilities. The new galleries, which will be launched with our 2012 GI show, will offer greater flexibility for presentation of work created at GSS, and the improved education facilities will enable us to expand this important aspect of our work.” David Watt, Director, Glasgow Sculpture Studio.
