Leeds, Round Foundry
igloo PROJECT
Igloo's Round Foundry regeneration project sits next door to igloo's Marshall's Mill development in the Holbeck Urban Village in Leeds and comprises 98 mixed-tenure residential units and 65,000 sq ft of commercial space, including creative industries workspace, convenience store and deli, bars and restaurants. The site is also home for the new national and international centre of excellence of the Government's Academy for Sustainable Communities. The development has a considerable art context including free space provided for the Artist House, a number of art commissions on site and facilitation of wider community based arts events.
A second phase comprising 35,000 sq ft started in 2006 and includes a green building extension to the Round Foundry Media Centre which has been open since December 2003 providing a high quality, contemporary focus for the digital and creative industries in Leeds. As a flagship regeneration project for Yorkshire Forward, it led to over 100 new jobs and 24 new companies being established in its first two years of operation. www.roundfoundry.net
A planned third phase will provide a further 60,000 sq ft of new build commercial space.
